Pablo Picasso and the Unkown Masterpice by Honoré de Balzac

Pablo Picasso is considered one of the great masters of printmaking. Having used this technique throughout his life, he made several series of etchings in the thirties that would become relevant examples of the history of engraving.

Among them we can find the series that  he made in 1931 to illustrate a new edition of Honoré de Balzac "The Unknown Masterpiece."

The Juan March Foundation runs, until July 23, the exhibition "Picasso and the Unknown Masterpiece by Honoré de Balzac" which showcases thirteen original etchings by Picasso painted on the text of Balzac.

Balzac's story is in the XVII century and is staged in the Paris studio of an elderly artist named Frenhofer, a frustrated genius who creates works so ahead of its time that no one understands them. Picasso, fascinated by the character, with who he identified himself, made his etchings using as the main theme the intimate relationship between the creative artist and his work.
