150th anniversary of Impressionist painter Konstantin Korovin

The State Russian Museum of Saint-Petersburg hosts an exhibition that commemorates the 150th anniversary of Konstantin Korovin (1861-1939), a leading Russian Impressionist painter. The show reunites about 250 artworks from museums of Russia and private collections, which reflect the main stages of the creative development of the artist: from the paintings of the 1880s which were innovative for Russian art of that time to the works of the 1920-1930s when the emigrant artist lived and worked in France.

Documents concerning the art and life of the world-famous Russian artist will also be on display. The exhibition also presents the works of theatre-decorative art and the recently restored panel complex which adorned the walls of the Russian pavilion at the 1900 World’s Fair in Paris.

Konstantin Korovin is the most prominent representative of “Russian impressionism”, acknowledged master of landscape and still-life painting. His talent also flourished in portraiture and genre painting (“Chorus Girl”, “At the Balcony. Spanish Women”, “Portrait of Tatiana Lyubatovich”, “Paper Lanterns”, “Portrait of Fyodor Chalyapin”.
