The art meets in ARCOMadrid 2012

Madrid is againt he meeting place for contemporary art professionals worldwide, with the 31st edition of ARCOmadrid, organised by IFEMA and held from 15 to 19 February at Feria de Madrid. A total of 215 galleries from 29 countries will display a wide range of contemporary art to the public, with works by 3,000 artists.

Halls 8 and 10 of Feria de Madrid show the selections of 160 international galleries in the General Programme, and 62 in the curated programmes. FOCUS: THE NETHERLANDS includes the participation of 14 Dutch galleries; OPENING, a selection of 25 European galleries, and SOLO PROJECTS: FOCUS LATIN AMERICA, 23 galleries from the American continent.

ARCOmadrid continues to be a space for cultural cross-fertilisation between Latin America and Europe. One of its most exciting new features, attracting prestigious figures in the art world, will be the 1st Meeting of European and Latin American Museums. This meeting will bring together figures such as Chris Dercon, Director, Tate Modern, London; Manuel Borja-Villel, Director, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid; Hans-Michael Herzog, Director and Curator, Daros Latinamerica Collection, Zurich; Alfred Pacquement, Director, Musée national d'art moderne/Centre de création industrielle, Centre Pompidou, Paris, and Graciela de la Torre, Director, Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo MUAC, Mexico.

Encouraging collecting is also the focus of the First Collector Programme coordinated by Elisa Hernando, from the consultancy Arte Global. For the second year in a row it will offer advice in the context of the fair on starting a collection and acquiring works of art at ARCOmadrid.
