The Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires, Malba-Fundación Constantini (Argentina) opens its 2012 exhibition schedule with the exhibition Bye Bye American Pie, a selection of over 110 works of seven prominent American artists: Jean-Michel Basquiat, Larry Clark, Nan Goldin, Jenny Holzer, Barbara Kruger, Cady Nolan and Paul McCarthy.
Bye Bye American Pie explores the transformations of American culture from the seventies to the present through the works of some of the most important artists of the United States in the last 40 years. This research brings together key pieces of each artist in various media: paintings, photographs, installations and works on paper.
The selection of works responds not only to an artistic sensibility but also to the artists' strategies in various media. The exhibition takes its name from the song American Pie by Don McLean about the loss of innocence of the generation of the 60's. The joint exhibition of these artists offers an overview of a particular trend in the cultural history of the United States, which emerged with the apogee of American civilization.
