Specters of Artaud. Language and the Arts in the 1950s
September 19 – December 17, 2012
This exhibition explores the influence that the French poet, playwright and actor, Antonin Artaud (Marseilles, 1896 – Paris, 1948) has had on the visual arts, focusing especially on how important his legacy is in understanding the post-war avant garde movements that developed in the United States, France and Brazil.
Encounters with the 1930s
October 3, 2012 - January 7, 2013
The 1930s was a turbulent decade, with the rise of totalitarian governments and constant migration of artists in a social, economic and political setting very much marked by the utopian dreams and the agitation of the moment. This exhibition presents the decade not through propagandistic narratives (although they are an essential characteristic of the 1930s), but through the fact that artists had to define their own path in an atmosphere of increasing violence.
María Blanchard
October 17, 2012 - February 25, 2013
The exhibition dedicated to María Blanchard (Santander, 1881 – Paris, 1932) seeks to recover this Spanish artist who experienced painting with all of its uncertainties and convictions and who would end up becoming one of the great figures of the avant-garde.
Losing the human form: a seismic image of the 1980s in Latin America
25 October 2012 – 11 March 2013
Place: Sabatini Building, third floor
This exposition seeks to reactivate artistic and political practices that took place during the 1980s in different Latin American contexts.
