The Museum Carmen Thyssen Málaga (Málaga, Spain) will open tomorrow an exhibition that features the work of Hermen Anglada-Camarasa, one of the most important Spanish painters of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century.
The exhibition, organized in collaboration with the Obra Social "la Caixa", will reunite about 55 works that showcase the representation of women in the painting of this author.
After an initial period of training in Catalonia, Hermenigildo Anglada-Caramara (Barcelona, 1871-Port de Pollença, 1959) went to Paris in 1894 with the determination of expanding his artistic knowledge.
The paintings of his Parisian stage, under the influence of the electric light, show the nightlife of the Belle Époque in the capital, where the woman, wrapped in apparent luxury and voluptuousness, is the protagonist of his most creative productions.
Anglada-Camarasa started then a successful career with exhibitions in European and American cities. Not surprisingly this stage was his most creative and outstanding, capturing the night life in a very personal and original way.
