The Museum of Modern Art in Mexico organizes, in close collaboration with Cultural Action of Spain and the Valencian Institute of Modern Art (IVAM) a retrospective devoted to Félix Candela. The exhibition reunites architectural projects by Candela that were carried out abroad, his most productive period between 1940 and 1960 and his great contribution to architecture in Mexico.
Candela's constructions are based on three premises: economy, simplicity and flexibility in the calculation. To carry out these premises, he worked with geometric shapes, the hyperbolic paraboloid known as shell.
This retrospective aims to explain the dialogue between the author and the architectural field in Mexico. It includes, photographs, public documents, models and drawings, which illustrate the climax of his work between 1950 and 1960, such as the Cosmic Rays Pavillion at University City, the covers of the Coyoacan’s Chapel or the Jacaranda Cabaret in Acapulco
Location: Museum of Modern Art. Paseo de la Reforma y Gandhi s/n, Bosque de Chapultepec. Mexico D.F. Mexico.
