I came across these wild Hollyhocks growing in a field whilst driving on my way to Portugal and they were so lovely, a clustering of blue, and I had to stop to take a photo to paint later in the studio. Painted in oils on linen and framed in a 'distressed' gold coloured wood moulding with a white wood inner slip. Finely detailed with smooth blended glazes and varnished to a matt finish. The palette is shades of blue, purple with greens and raw umber and the piece is ready to hang immediately, complete with frame.
Awareness of the sea in all the seasons is my inspiration, experimenting with the weather, light and windswept places.
