The Mixtecs, distrusting Cocijoeza, demanded as a guarantee that the Zaachileños would not attack the fortification of Monte Albán, which they had conquered in the war; "Thus," he says, "they asked that the only Zapotec princess remain as a hostage. Donají was received by the Mixtecs with the honors of her rank and was a pledge of peace. But this noble heroine, meditating on her unusual prison, said to herself: 'My stay here humiliates my house; Only the continuation of the war will be able to wash away this affront; my father who defeated my grandfather Ahuitzotl in Guiengola will defeat Dzahuindanda in this fortification. Despising his life for the glory of his people, Donají sent a message to the Zaachileños so that, without loss of time, they would fall on the sleeping and neglected enemy camp, whom they defeated. But Donají had disappeared, the Mixtecs beheaded her, burying her immediately, so that the Zapotecs would not know her whereabouts. After some time a beautiful purple lily grew near the left bank of the Atoyac River, where Donají's remains were found when digging. The single head with the neck down, the face to the east somewhat inclined and with the roots of the lily on the forehead and right temple, and apparently asleep.
